Money Saving Monday

Having a big family is expensive. We have learned through the years how to cut corners and save money to be able to afford to live with sooo many kids.

Buy in Bulk- We shop Sams club, restaurant supply places (for those of you in the DFW are Bassham foods on Hemphill and 8-20 is a great place to shop) Grocery salvages (again for those of you in DFW area Town Talk Foods on Beach street in Ft. Worth is a great place)

Plan Ahead - Prepare menus ahead and do recipes to use up leftovers.

We do not throw away anything. Stale bread becomes croutons. Left over meat becomes soups or stews.

Freeze- We freeze left overs than have them on a busy night or after church.

We shop thrift stores or Goodwill for clothing you can find some great buys.

Laundry Soap- Lots of laundry to do in a home with 10 kids. So we make our own laundry detergent.

Laundry Detergent
2 bozes Arm and Hammer Washing Soda
1 lg box Baking Soda
2 Boxes Borax
4 bars felds Naptha Soap grated
2 containers of dry fabric softner

All can be found at Wallmart in one place
(do not try to grate you soap in a food processor it will burn it up)
Mix together in a 5 gallon bucket. This last us about 4 to 6 weeks.
This soap does not suds so it is safe to use in the newer washers.
